The decision of the jury was based on the contribution of Mr. Mattheou as a valuable member of a major and of Greek interests shipping company and as a facilitator and supporter of maritime sciences and the protection of the marine environment.As the Chairman of the Green Award Foundation, as an Executive Member of HELMEPA, as a Governor of the International Propeller Club, Port of Piraeus and as the newly elected Vice President of the Hellenic Mediterranean Panel of INTERTANKO, Mr. Mattheou actively supports the principles of collective actions and extroversion of shipping and focuses with inexhaustible passion on highlighting the human factor and the need for innovation; pillars on which the Greek maritime model has always relied.Mr. Mattheou is an active as well as energetic member of the Greek shipping community, with a glorious presence at national and international bodies and shipping agencies. The most important, however, contribution of Capt. Dimitris is to the Greek Naval and Maritime Academic Education, the Greek Navy and the operations of the wider Greek shipping cluster.
I dare to point out, that dozens of young students and scholars, scientists and young entrepreneurs owe the beginning of their careers to Mr Mattheou’s valuable and multifaceted support. Greece and Greek Shipping are in need of young people with ‘appetite’ and passion both for professional overcoming and for personal excellence. « In my capacity as the Director General, of HELMEPA, the Hellenic Marine Environment Protection Association I had known Capt. Dimitrio Mattheou as the CEO of ARCADIA SHIPMANAGEMENT, one of the oldest Members of our association and had always had him in high esteem for reaching the top of the hierarchy of a shipping company such as ARCADIA.
