Propeller Club of Piraeus: Plans for strengthening maritime relations between Greece and Egypt

 

On the 6th of December, 2018,  Propeller Club of Piraeus delegation of Governors met with the Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Greece Mohamed Farib Monib and the Commercial Counselor of the Embassy Mr. Manal Abdeltawab.

The agenda of the visit included a brief presentation and the recent developments of Propeller Club – Port of Piraeus, a discussion on the development of the Egyptian shipping market and the country’s economic development, as well as the potential for the creation of a new Propeller in Egypt.

Merchant Marine Academy of Macedonia: 50 years of significant contribution in maritime education

 

I have the honour and the privilege to be frequently invited by Faculties and Educational Institutions in their graduation ceremonies. However, each time is a unique moment that causes me special emotions and a profound sense of responsibility for the words I address to the graduates.

On Friday, July 13th, 2018 was a day dedicated to the young people who graduated successfully from the Merchant Marine Academy of Macedonia. This year actually marks the 50th anniversary since the establishment of the School of Engineering in Michaniona.

Day of the Seafarer 2018

Today, June the 25th, Maritime World celebrates the Day of the Seafarer. This day was instituted by the IMO on 2010 to remember the importance of seafarers and to raise awareness about life at sea.

This year IMO’s campaign praises Seafarer’s wellbeing, aiming to the promotion of initiatives and useful material developed by various maritime stakeholders to apply higher quality standards and to highlight actions to improve conditions for seafarers on matters related to their well-being such as: Shore leave, Abandonment, Mental health, Wages, No criminalization, Repatriation, Resources available to Positive Mental Health and MLC convention.

Arcadia Shipmanagement Co Ltd and HELMEPA ‘gave life’ to Kimasi beach in Mantoudi, North Evia


On Friday 8th of June, the World Ocean Day, Arcadia Shipmanagement Co Ltd uder the framework of its Corporate Social Responsibility, once again expressed its environmental consciousness and corporate environmental footprint by participating, on its own initiative, in the  European Clean Up Day program coordinated by HELMEPA – Hellenic Marine Environment Protection Association (http://www.helmepa.gr/en/home.php). Specifically, the cleaning of the Kimasi beach, in Mantoudi, North Evia took place with the voluntary participation of the students, the School Principal Mr. Papasotiriou Nikolaos and the teachers of the Mantoudi Elementary School in Evia. The action was successfully completed within the campaign “Let’s Clean Up Europe”, coordinated by HELMEPA with the sponsorship of Arcadia Shipmanagement Co. Ltd and the honorable presence of the Coast Guard of the region.

HELMEPA has expressed its appreciation and has congratulated Arcadia for its voluntary environmental initiative and active participation in the relevant program.

Στις 22 Μαίου, 2018 ολοκληρώθηκε η καθιερωμένη ετήσια συνάντηση της συμβουλευτικής επιτροπής των ναυτιλιακών προγραμμάτων του ALBA (Business Advisory Committee) στις εγκαταστάσεις του ALBA Graduate Business School, Αμερικανικό Κολέγιο Ελλάδος.

Η ετήσια αυτή συνάντηση που αποτελείται από επίλεκτα στελέχη σημαντικών ναυτιλιακών εταιρειών έχει στόχο αφενός την πληροφόρηση της επιτροπής για τις εξελίξεις των ναυτιλιακών προγραμμάτων της Σχολής, αλλά και την ενημέρωση των ακαδημαϊκών υπευθύνων του ALBA επί των πραγματικών αναγκών και σημερινών απαιτήσεων της ναυτιλιακής αγοράς.

Η Ναυτική Ακαδημία του Μητροπολιτικού Κολλεγίου αλλάζει τα δεδομένα


Πέμπτη, 17 Μαϊου 2018.
Σε μια εντυπωσιακή εκδήλωση στο Μέγαρο Μουσικής Αθηνών πραγματοποιήθηκε η επίσημη πρώτη παρουσίαση της Ναυτικής Ακαδημίας του Μητροπολιτικού Κολλεγίου, της μόνης ολοκληρωμένης πρότασης σπουδών υψηλής ποιότητας στη Ναυτιλία στην Ελλάδα, σε συνεργασία με την παγκοσμίως κορυφαία ναυτική ακαδημία του Solent University με έδρα το Southampton της Μ. Βρετανίας. Η Ναυτική Ακαδημία θα αρχίσει τη λειτουργία της από το νέο ακαδημαϊκό έτος 2018-19 στις νέες εγκαταστάσεις 3.500m² του Μητροπολιτικού Κολλεγίου, στην καρδιά του Πειραιά.

On May 16, 2018 the department of Maritime Administration of Texas A&M University, Galveston USA visited ARCADIA Shipmanagement Co Ltd. Dr Nikolaos Mykoniatis, as part of the study abroad program that he leads with 15 of his students (11 undergraduate and 4 post-graduate) and a colleague of his were warmly welcomed by the General Manager of the company Mr. Mattheou and his assistant miss Zorzou. The visit lasted approximately 2 hours with Mr Mattheou presenting the structure and organization of the firm, the fleet and its special technical characteristics, how ARCADIA manages to remain a leader in the Greek and Global Maritime environment, and answered all questions from the students. During and at the end of the visit gifts were exchanged and photos were taken.

Κεφάλαιο Ναυτικής Εκπαίδευσης: 70 χρόνια προσφοράς

Πραγματοποιήθηκε την Πέμπτη 12 Οκτωβρίου στο Ίδρυμα Αικατερίνης Λασκαρίδη η παρουσίαση του ειδικού τόμου των Ναυτικών Χρονικών, με τίτλο: «Το Ελληνικό Ναυτιλιακό Παράδειγμα. Η συμβολή της ναυτικής εκπαίδευσης».

Ο ειδικός τόμος αποτελεί μία συλλογική συγγραφική προσπάθεια με στόχο τόσο το ευρύ κοινό όσο και τον ειδικό ερευνητή και αναγνώστη. Επιλέχθηκαν τα εργαλεία της ιστορικής επιστήμης για να προσεγγιστεί το ζήτημα των απαρχών της σύγχρονης ναυτικής εκπαίδευσης στην χώρα, αλλά παράλληλα διατηρήθηκε και ένας «δημοσιογραφικός» χαρακτήρας για να ακουστεί με γλαφυρό και άμεσο τρόπο η φωνή των Ελλήνων ναυτικών του σήμερα, των Ελλήνων πλοιάρχων και μηχανικών.

NanoPhos Marine: Nanotechnology for Green Award ships

3 October, 2017, ATHENS – A festive ceremony was held to mark entrance of NanoPhos Marine into the Green Award certification scheme. NanoPhos Marine, a company using nanotechnology to boost efficiency of ocean going vessels, became a Green Award incentive provider.

The formal ceremony took place on September 29th, 2017, in Athens (Greece). Cpt. Dimitrios Mattheou, Chairman of the Green Award Foundation addressed NanoPhos by saying: “New technologies are an integral part of the nowadays shipping. In general they make a very positive contribution to both safety and efficiency. Nanotechnology helps solving macro-issues and Nanophos is an expert when it comes to coating issues. FIRST CHINESE INCENTIVE PROVIDER ZOUSHAN KAMJI MARINE AGENCY LTD IN THE GREEN AWARD SCHEME

7 August 2017 – Kamji Marine Agency Ltd formally joined the Green Award scheme. With discounts up to 5% on various services for Green Award certificate holders, it makes Kamji Marine the first Green Award incentive provider in China.

Green Award Foundation has announced that their network of incentive providers has extended to China. On 31 July, 2017, Kamji Marine Agency Ltd entered the Green Award scheme.

Kamji Marine Agency Ltd headquarted in Zhoushan with branch offices in Europe. The company is a husbandry agent (local agent in Zhoushan port and a general agent for all other Chinese ports. It offers a wide range of services such as sludge disposal, tanker cleaning, dry dock repair, technical repair, store & spare parts supply and acts as a SPRO agent. Green Award certified ships and offices are offered a 3% discount for owner matter agency, no cash payment on board the ship for SPRO retainer fee and a 5% discount on sludge disposal, tank cleaning, technical repair and store & spare parts supply.

Green Award surveys and certifies ships and ship managers that demonstrate excellent performance. The certificate is recognized by the industry as a quality mark and rewarded with various benefits by ports and maritime products and services suppliers. Ships and ship manager must meet strict requirements covering safety, quality and environmental performance to successfully pass the certification.

Maran Tankers Management fleet committed to highest quality standards, received the Green Award certificate also on its 3rd VLCC new building.

As the Maran Arete, has successfully passed the survey onboard and obtained the Green Award certificate. The ship with a 318.850 deadweight tons capacity, was delivered in October 2016.
The identical sister vessels namely Maran Arete and Maran Ariadne both also received the Green Award certificate in Nov 27, 2016 and in Jan 31, 2017 respectively.

MarineTraffic joins Green Award scheme to reward excellent ship operation

MarineTraffic, the world’s most trusted AIS vessel tracking service, has joined the Green Award scheme to recognise and reward excellent ship operation.

Arcadia Shipmanagement whole fleet Green Award certified, new builds to join

25 October, 2016, ROTTERDAM – The first of the newly built Suezmax oil tankers of Arcadia Shipmanagement, MT Aegean Marathon, is recognized with the Green Award certificate. Five more new builds are preparing for the certification to demonstrate their outstanding quality.

The first out of 6 new built oil tankers, the Aegean Marathon with DWT of 159.000 tonnes, has been inspected and awarded with the Green Award certificate. Arcadia Shipmanagement took delivery of MT Aegean Marathon in May this year and immediately submitted the vessel for Green Award certification. Arcadia remains committed to having the complete fleet in the Green Award scheme and intends to have all 6 new buildings certified by Green Award.

TSAKOS COLUMBIA SHIPMANAGEMENT EXPANDS GREEN AWARD CERTIFICATION

1st of August, 2016, ROTTERDAM – Tsakos Columbia Shipmanagement (“TCM”) S.A. applied their newly delivered aframax tanker ELIAS TSAKOS for Green Award certification.

ELIAS TSAKOS was delivered at the end of June and is the first of the nine assigned for long-term charter with an Oil Major.
Tsakos Columbia Shipmanagement indicated their intention to enroll all nine newbuilds to Green Award, which are planned to be delivered throughout 2016 and 2017. This move from Tsakos Columbia shows their care for the environment.
For each ship, an onboard survey will be carried out and certificates will be issued in due course upon successfully meeting the Green Award requirements.

The onboard survey for ELIAS TSAKOS was completed on 24 July in Kårstø, Norway by an experienced Green Award surveyor. The new tanker passed the survey requirements smoothly and became Tsakos Columbia’s fifth oil tanker to be certified by Green Award.

The company first applied for Green Award in 2014 with their suezmax EURO. After successful completion of office audit in 2014 and onboard survey of EURO in 2015, they added 3 aframaxes Promitheas, Propontis and Proteas that were certified in early 2016. Jan Fransen, Executive Director of Green Award Foundation, commented: “At Green Award, we praise the intentions shown by Tsakos Columbia Shipmanagement to enroll additional 9 ships to Green Award certification. Bureau Veritas – VeriFuel joins Green Award

1st of July, 2016, Athens – Bureau Veritas’ fuel monitoring program, VeriFuel, has become a Green Award incentive provider. Cooperation, meant to further encourage the best practices of the shipping industry and mitigate its environmental impact, was officially announced at a cocktail reception held in Athens by the Bureau Veritas.

LPG carriers get an opportunity to be awarded with Green Award certificate

The Green Award Foundation, which certifies ships that significantly surpass minimum required industry standards, has added a new sector to its certification programmes’ portfolio. A certification programme for LPG carriers has been launched. From the 1st of April, 2016, fully refrigerated LPG carriers from 20,000 m3 are eligible for Green Award certification.

The LPG certification program adds to already existing certification programmes for oil and chemical tankers, bulk, container and LNG carriers and inland navigation ships. This programme comes as a result of demands by the industry. After tremendous cooperation from various stakeholders, Green Award is proud to announce the launch of the LPG carriers certification programme.

EPE (Environmental Protection Engineering) S.A. and ERMA FIRST S.A. are proud to announce their participation in the Green Award Foundation as incentive providers, as of April 2016.

The handover ceremony took place on the 31st of March, in Piraeus, in the head offices of EPE, where Capt. Dimitrios Mattheou, chairman of Green Award Foundation and Jan Fransen, Executive Director of the Green Award, recognized EPE and ERMA FIRST as incentive providers of the foundation. Mr. Athanassios Polychronopoulos, Vice President & Global Development Manager received the honors for EPE, whereas Messrs. Christos Tsitselis, Sales Manager and Nikos Kyritsis, Technical Product Manager, for ERMA FIRST.
Green Award Foundation in a neutral, independent and non-profit organization established in 1994. Green Award provides a platform for the cross-sectorial collaboration of the industry. Ports, ship managers, charterers, maritime service providers and industry decision makers form a network where all participants have an important role. The organization’s goal is to develop the market sensitivity and preference for quality tonnage and consequently decrease the incidents and accidents that are harmful for the marine environment through uniting all parties involved.
