The action was successfully completed within the campaign “Let’s Clean Up Europe”, coordinated by HELMEPA with the sponsorship of Arcadia Shipmanagement Co. Ltd and the honorable presence of the Coast Guard of the region.
HELMEPA has expressed its appreciation and has congratulated Arcadia for its voluntary environmental initiative and active participation in the relevant program.
Since 1983, HELMEPA has been performing a concerted summer awareness campaign with the aim to spread the message for Clean Seas and Beaches to the general public. In this context, scouts and schoolchildren in Greece participate in voluntary beach cleanups, which has been the most popular activity of the “HELMEPA Junior” environmental education program since 1993 http://www.helmepa.gr/en/junior_program.php.
The program has been offered to schoolchildren, 5-13 years old, in kindergartens and primary schools throughout Greece. As the national coordinator of the European Clean Up Day activity in Greece, HELMEPA invites its member-companies, local authorities and concerned citizens across the country, to contribute to this initiative by devoting a few hours to cleanup a nearby beach, a section of the seabed, a river bank or lake, a forest area or park.
