1st of August, 2016, ROTTERDAM – Tsakos Columbia Shipmanagement (“TCM”) S.A. applied their newly delivered aframax tanker ELIAS TSAKOS for Green Award certification.
ELIAS TSAKOS was delivered at the end of June and is the first of the nine assigned for long-term charter with an Oil Major.
Tsakos Columbia Shipmanagement indicated their intention to enroll all nine newbuilds to Green Award, which are planned to be delivered throughout 2016 and 2017. This move from Tsakos Columbia shows their care for the environment.
For each ship, an onboard survey will be carried out and certificates will be issued in due course upon successfully meeting the Green Award requirements.
The onboard survey for ELIAS TSAKOS was completed on 24 July in Kårstø, Norway by an experienced Green Award surveyor. The new tanker passed the survey requirements smoothly and became Tsakos Columbia’s fifth oil tanker to be certified by Green Award.
The company first applied for Green Award in 2014 with their suezmax EURO. After successful completion of office audit in 2014 and onboard survey of EURO in 2015, they added 3 aframaxes Promitheas, Propontis and Proteas that were certified in early 2016. Jan Fransen, Executive Director of Green Award Foundation, commented: “At Green Award, we praise the intentions shown by Tsakos Columbia Shipmanagement to enroll additional 9 ships to Green Award certification. Greek shipping has been with the Green Award programme from the beginning and their commitment has certainly grown over the years. We congratulate the Greek shipping industry for their success and certainly encourage them for continued commitment to sustainability.”
Capt. Yiannis Giannakopoulos, the HSQEE-Marine Manager and DPA of TCM, pointed out that the Green Award certification is an objective evidence of the Company’s commitment in ensuring safe and flawless operations in compliance with the highest HSE standards.
